County Finals 2010/11

Held at GLL Westcroft Leisure Centre, the South London County Basketball Finals sponsored by F.I.R.S.T Call Housing Foundation took place on 27^th January 2011. Boys and Girls School teams who had qualified in under 14, under 15 and under 16 age groups competed in qualifying county wide leagues, then went through to a knockout stage feeding the top two teams into the finals to compete for the title of 'County Champions'. The new structure and County Finals event was coordinated by the South London Competition Manager team with support from the Surrey Basketball Association.

Overall the event was dominated by some very strong Croydon Schools. In the girls events winners included Teddington School (U14) from Richmond School Sport Partnership, Harris Academy South Norwood (U15) and St Marys High School (U16) both from Croydon's School Sport Partnerships.

The boys events saw Wimbledon College from the Merton School Sport Partnership win the trophy at U14s and Croydon Schools St Marys and Archbishop Lanfranc take the titles at U15s and U16s respectively.

All winners will now go on to represent South London in the Regional and potentially the London Zone Finals which feed into the National Final fours later in the year. This competition involved around 492 pupils and 41 teams from the qualifying stages through to county finals. As part of their commitment to engage all young people into sport the Competition Managers worked with School Sports Partnerships to hold separate local tournaments alongside the national competition pathway, encouraging more participation in the sport from new and emerging schools as well as B and C teams.
