Tuesday 18th May 2010 was a special day in the Kingston SSP sporting calendar as it marked the date of its first ever Primary Schools Rounders Tournament. Soaring temperatures welcomed the ten competing teams to Tolworth Girls' School but things were to only get hotter once the action was underway!
Split into two groups of 5, teams were trying to top their group in order to gain one of the coveted spots in the final. The standard of play was exceptionally high with great batting and fielding leading to lots of rounders being scored but also lots of tight calls for the umpires to make.
At the end of 20 matches it was Green Lane who topped group A, while in a very competitive group B it was Malden Manor who progressed through. As anticipated the final was very exciting with both teams giving 110%. Unfortunately though there can only be one winner and it was Malden Manor who emerged victorious claiming a 10.5 - 5.5 victory to be crowned the inaugural borough champions.
As a result of their victory Malden Manor will now go on to represent Kingston in the South London Finals on June 22nd. We wish them every success for that event.
Teams: Coombe Hill Juniors, Corpus Christi, Fern Hill, Green Lane, King Athelstan, Latchmere, Malden Manor, Robin Hood, St Joseph's, St Luke's
