Primary Schools Cricket

Kingston don't like Cricket…………..they love it!!

Budding young cricketers converged on Chessington Cricket Club last Tuesday (7th June) for the annual Kingston Primary Schools Kwik-Cricket Playoffs. This event continues to grow and as well the 'Best Team' finals taking place, this year for the first time ever there was also a 'Girls Only' competition. In the 'best team' competition St Mary's Primary started the day as favourites as they attempted to defend the title they won last year. At the conclusion of the competitive group stages they had made their way into the final again where they would face Fern Hill who had seen off Burlington Juniors in Group B. Some magnificent bowling, batting and particularly fielding saw just 9 runs separate the teams in the end. However, St Mary's were not to be knocked off their perch and they emerged victorious from the final.

4 teams participated in the 'girls only' event which proved just a competitive as the 'best team' competition. In the round robin format no team could relax as literally every run, catch, and wicket counted. At the conclusion it was Fern hill who remained undefeated and they were declared the inaugural Kingston SSP champions.

Both St Marys and Fern Hill will now represent Kingston in the Surrey County finals which take place later in the term.

Competition Manager and tournament organiser Mike Skinner was once again delighted with the outcome of the day. "This event epitomises all the good work the Kingston School Sport Partnership has been laying the foundations for over the past few years. We have the local clubs here providing facilities, local coaches bringing their expertise, we have the full support of the primary schools who have come here on mass, and we have the support of the NGB so there is a pathway for todays winners to follow. It is a great model".

Competing Teams: Burlington Juniors, Fern Hill, Malden Manor, Malden Parochial, St Marys Primary, St Josephs
