Active Autism

Active Autism is a weekly programme on a Saturday morning in Kingston reaching 30 people between six and 15 years of age. This is a new programme that we have recently developed and has been a huge success. The programme is for young people with Autism and focuses on the mechanical aspects of sport, teaching participants about competition and team play. The emphasis on competition is reduced for the participants and more emphasis is put on their achievements.

We have evidence to suggest the programme has significantly improved the young peoples social skills, confidence, hand/eye co-ordination, health, concentration and self-esteem. The programme has been recognised by Kingston PCT as a best practice model and will soon to rolled out into 3 local schools

Have you got Talent?

It is vital that we provide opportunities for every individual!

Neil Mears is our SEN SSCo and does a fantastic job at his own school, St Philips, as well as assisting the SEN Schools in Kingston. Neil has also successfully steered his ship to victory in the 2007 SEN Panathlon. Congratulations to St Philips on an excellent performance!

The British Paralympic Association and NASUWT have launched a new resource for schools called Ability vs Avility, check it out!

Playground to Podium

The Youth Sport Trust have realised that some of our young talented disabled pupils are slipping through the system. There is a need for us to recognise those children who have a disability but may be Gifted and Talented at sport. The Youth Sport Trust have set aside funding for a programme called "Playground to Podium" which will assist these G&T disabled pupils in acheiving their full potential and possibly go on to represent GB at the Paralympics.

Can You Descriptors are a great way of discovering disabled Gifted & Talented pupils.
